In the rural Western Province of Rwanda, which still bears the scars of the 1994 genocide, families are determined to give their children a good start in life. That's why, for mums such as Esperance Nyirahabiyambere, the new Early Childhood Development Centre in Gitese is an exciting development.

Such centres give children from extremely poor backgrounds a head start on their primary education, paving the way for a better future.
